The challenges presented in caring for dementia clients have placed increasing demands on long-term care facilities and services. This program assesses existing practices to determine future care needs and suggests strategies for change.
There are two steps to this program.
1. Assessment - Your Strengths and Limitations
We assess clients with dementia who are demonstrating the most challenging behaviours to uncover the strengths and limitations of your care practices, strategies and programming.
2. On-site Assessment - Becoming a Resident
An FCS consultant conducts a formal experiential assessment to define the demands and pressures experienced by your residents with dementia.
Our assessment in the dementia-care enhancement program focuses on the specific needs of the mentally impaired client:
Programming
We examine programming assessment mechanisms, department integration, programming options and use, measurement of programming effectiveness, levels of client functioning and communication of results.
Environment
We assess how appropriate and functional your environment is for dementia clients and how it supports the care process.
Care Process
We review assessment tools, programming, your care plan format and use, communication and analysis mechanisms, client advocacy, family involvement, admission process and supports.
After completing this assessment, we discuss our findings with your staff and managers. Then we facilitate your team to create a plan to meet the care and program needs of dementia clients.
